Biography

I have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (2016) from the Ontario Tech University. For my MSc in Chemical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (2010), I developed complex metal hydride-based hydrogen storage systems. From 2010 to 2012, I focused on waste management and worked as a sustainability consultant in Chicago. During my Ph.D. (2012-2016), I developed a hybrid photoelectrochemical hydrogen production system that generates heat, electricity, chlorine, and clean water. My Ph.D. thesis received the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award and Governor-General of Canada’s Gold Medal for Academic Excellence. After my Ph.D., I worked as an Assistant Professor of Energy Systems Engineering at Bahcesehir University. I obtained the Outstanding Young Scientist (Turkish Academy of Sciences, 2018) and Outstanding Young Researcher (Turkish National Hydrogen Technologies Association, 2019) awards. With “Smart energy solutions with hydrogen options,” I received the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy (IJHE)’s Zong Qiang Mao Award for the most cited paper in Hydrogen Applications (2018). In 2021, I became a Tenure Track Assistant Professor at the University of Twente. My research focus is the integration of renewable-based hydrogen energy systems in the built environment.
