Biography

Cottrell has completed their PhD in Reproductive Sciences and is now working as a part of the Translational Bioinformatics Research Group led by Prof. Jane Synnergren at the University of Skövde. They are specializing in disease modeling for Cardiovascular conditions. Cottrell is actively exploring the potential of biological nanoparticles (extracellular vesicles) as therapeutic agents. In addition, they are focused on developing innovative methods to elucidate the biological information embedded in deep learning models, bridging the gap between complex data and meaningful insights.

Cottrell is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of scientists. Drawing from the invaluable support and guidance they have received from mentors and role models throughout their career, Cottrell is dedicated to paying it forward. Cottrell engages in mentorship programs, such as Curious Minds, and actively participates in initiatives like STEM Women Australia, where she strives to empower and inspire aspiring scientists, particularly underrepresented groups, to pursue their passions in STEMM.
