Biography
Jess is a geoscientist with expertise in the application of geochemical and spectroscopic techniques to ore systems. She leads the CSIRO Mineral Resources, Mineral Footprints Team and is involved in Project 3 of the MinEx CRC, the NVCL, and projects applying the combined use of lab and field-based spectroscopic and geochemical techniques to address industry challenges. Jess is broadly interested in improving the workflows in which we collect and integrate geoscientific datasets to develop a more sustainable minerals industry. She completed her PhD at the University of Western Ontario in Canada and worked throughout Canada’s Superior Province and gained industry experience as an underground production geologist.
Jess is passionate about in the importance of increasing inclusion and representation of historically excluded populations in the geosciences and broader STEMM community. She is actively involved in the CSIRO Mineral Resources DIB (Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging) Committee and the Pride@CSIRO werkgroup and network, is on the national committee for QueersInScience, is a member of GICE (Geoscience Indigenous Collaboration and Engagement) group, and is the EMCR member of the AAS (Australian Academy of Science) National Committee for the Earth Sciences.
